July is here, the sense of normality gradually returning after last Monday’s government Covid restriction relaxation announcement and the typical British weather continues to throw everything at us we would expect at this time of year!
Last Saturday saw the first two big events of our ‘Summer in Shepton’ events programme; two outdoor cinema screenings, firstly of Disney/Pixar’s ‘Up’ and secondly the 1939 classic ‘Wizard of Oz’. Well done to everyone who braved the rain for both screenings… somehow I think a bit of rain makes the experience feel more authentic. Or maybe ‘damp’ is the word I’m looking for!
We have a whole host of activities happening every weekend and mid-week too so remember to check www.sheptonmallet-tc.gov.uk/summer-in-shepton or our Facebook page (Shepton Mallet Town Council) for more details.
Two large events in particular are worth putting on your calendar now. Saturday 17th July sees local theatre company ‘Make the Sunshine’ present a day of dance, circus and theatre events for all the family! Have a go on the Wacky Wheels with Higher Beings Circus, take a disco tour of Shepton Mallet with a professional dancer, enjoy dances through the decades with Shepton’s very own Chapel Dance studio and enjoy some incredible live theatre from Squashbox Theatre. I’m not exactly sure what it all entails but will be popping along to find out!
The second large event happens a week later on Saturday 24th July up at the West Shepton Skate Park and BMX track. We have hired skate and BMX track professionals TeamRubicon to host a day of workshops, demonstrations and competitions open to all ages. From 10am-11am a skateboard and scooter workshop for those who have never tried the park before. From 11am-12pm workshops for young riders to help them feel safe using the park. From 1pm-4pm skateboard, scooter and BMX contests open to all ages and abilities and all kicked off with a professional demonstration. There will also be an opportunity to have your bike registered with BikeSafe, the national cycle database from 1pm-4pm. A coffee shop and ice cream van will be in attendance so make it a family day out and bring everyone along!
All events in ‘Summer in Shepton’ are completely free and open to everyone but some might need pre-registering so we can manage numbers. All details online.
Until next time.
