In a bid to support economic regeneration in Shepton Mallet, we have awarded a £15,000 Service Level Agreement (SLA) to support the development of a new Sunday Market.

Black Sheep CIC has embarked on a project to reinvigorate Shepton Mallet’s Sunday Market and Shepton Mallet Town Council is supporting them in the hope that a new and exciting market will increase footfall to the town centre, boost economic regeneration, encourage tourism and visitors as well as bring together the people of Shepton Mallet and surrounding areas.

The Black Sheep CIC is a team of Shepton residents and business owners, who are a not-for-profit company; staffed by volunteers, with the aim of working together to regenerate Shepton Mallet. The Shepton Mallet Sunday Market is run on an entirely voluntary basis for the betterment and rejuvenation of the town.

The SLA awarded by Shepton Mallet Town Council will support the market to establish itself in its first year. The funding has a limitation on what it may be used for including toilet hire, traffic management, purchase of gazebos, payment of entertainment fees, marketing licence and insurance costs and some marketing fees.

Shepton Mallet Town Council Vice Chair, Gavin Mayall said: “We are absolutely delighted as a council to be supporting this fantastic project which celebrates the breadth and wealth of creativity and culinary excellence that we have right here on our doorstep in Shepton Mallet. We are all aware of the amazing regenerative effect that Frome Independent has had and this exciting new market has the potential to have a similar effect here whilst being unique to Shepton and all that it has to offer. We cannot wait for the launch of Shepton Mallett Sunday Market on 28th April”

The first Sunday Market will be on the 28th of April, 10:00- 15:00, and has over 40 stalls already booked, 50% of which are from within a 5 mile radius of Shepton Mallet. You can find out more about the Market here.
