The council is pleased to announce a new Service Level Agreement with Somerset, that will safeguard the provision of CCTV in the town.

Historically, the town has benefited from CCTV, managed Somerset Council. Earlier in the year, the provision of this service was at risk due to the financial emergency declared by Somerset Council.

The Town Councils across Somerset were approached to look at whether taking on the cost of CCTV would be considered. The council had previously discussed enhancing the provision of CCTV across Shepton Mallet to ensure the safety of the community.

It was decided at the Full Council meeting on 25th June to enter into a Service Level agreement with Somerset Council whereby the cost for provision is borne mainly by the Town Council, Somerset Council will retain the cost for the cameras at Great Ostry and Commercial Road carparks.

The system is managed 24 hours per day, 7 days per week and includes cameras around the town and in Collett Park.
