Tell us a little bit about yourself (100 words max)
Shepton became my home 36 years ago I met my husband here and have 2 girls aged 10 and 13 that attend Shepton schools. I have worked for Clarks, Mulberry and Charlton House over the years, now I run my own Beauty Salon in the heart of town, and provide beauty services as well as training there. I am passionate about supporting young women to build their own careers within my industry
What motivated you to become a councillor?
I wanted to make a difference to our Town and was inspired by the collaboration of local like minded people that were working together as Future Shepton to take part too
What do you enjoy most about the role?
I go to Council meetings to make my decisions always thinking how all the people I meet on school runs and customers and family and friends might feel about the items on the Agenda. Its very rewarding to be able to make suggestions and make decisions of benefit for may years to come for the electorate
What’s the most frequent issue you deal with in your ward?
Although not in my ward the frequent issues I hear about revolve around issues with the Town Centre, from closed shops and unsightly premises , rubbish, vandalism
Do you have any advice for anyone thinking about becoming a councillor?
I would encourage anyone from all walks of life to become a Councillor. That is what we need to be a good representative Council. We need more women at the moment for sure! and Youth! I have had alot of support from fellow Councillors, office staff and our wonderful Town Clerk in the past year and it has taken a little time to gain confidence and understand the role of Councillor from newly elected with absolutely no knowledge to seeing where I can make a positive difference today
How can people contact you if they have an issue to raise?
via my council email is the best way to contact me, then I can respond accordingly
