Lantern Festival Workshop
4 December 2022 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Welcome to Shepton Mallet Lantern Festival – a fabulous, illuminated parade in Shepton Mallet with spectacular hand-made paper lanterns!
We invite you to join us and make your own unique lantern either at one of our workshops or at home – you can get a kit from our local Shepton partners Dredge & Male or The Hive.
Our workshops are safe family environments with lots of help available from our experienced volunteers. They are on hand to support you though planning and creating your own willow and tissue paper lanterns; all ages and abilities are welcome, but under 16s must be supervised. £2 for basic materials kit; children’s entertainment packs available for free. We would recommend you bring snacks – unleashing your imagination is hungry work!
There will be four workshops this year at Paul St Community Centre, Shepton Mallet. Saturday and Sunday, November 26th/27th, December 3rd/4th, 10.00 – 16.00.
The parade itself will take place on the evening of Saturday 17th December. It starts at 5 pm from the bandstand in Collett Park in Shepton Mallet, a magical experience of dancing lights in the darkness of winter. There is live music in the park and to accompany us as we parade through the centre of town to the Market Cross.
We are a non-profit making organisation; the workshops and parade are run by volunteers and any help will be gratefully received. Come and be part of the fun – we would love to see you there!
Workshop places are free but must be booked.
