Tell us a little bit about yourself (100 words max)

My wife and I moved to Shepton Mallet from Gurney Slade about 8 years ago, after living in Devon, Warwickshire and Lincolnshire. We both work in heritage/museums and wanted to live in a place that felt ‘in the countryside’ but not too rural, and not too busy like Wells or Bath, and had both local shops and access to larger chains and leisure facilities.

What motivated you to become a councillor?

Seeing the plans and the energy of the Town Council and wanting to play my part in shaping the towns future.

What do you enjoy most about the role?

Listening to others and helping solve problems and creating opportunities.

Do you have any advice for anyone thinking about becoming a councillor?

Just do it! Councils/communities need everyone’s help. Your voice and input can help shape the things that you, your neighbours and those around you need and want. It’s not about shouting the loudest or having the best idea it’s about finding common ground and then collaborating to get things done.

How can people contact you if they have an issue to raise?

Council email address : cllr.j.ducker@sheptonmallet-tc.gov.uk
