Discover our programme of free events and activities taking place in Shepton Mallet in Summer 2021.

From street performers to outdoor cinema, hula hooping to building your own playground, there is plenty to look forward to in Shepton Mallet this Summer. The Town Council is funding a number of family-friendly events and activities for residents and visitors to support our town’s recovery as we emerge from lockdown. Our hope is to help create a full programme of fun, safe, exciting events and activities that will give everyone in Shepton something to look forward to and celebrate all our town has to offer. We are also supporting local businesses and organisations running their own events this Summer by promoting them as part of our Summer in Shepton programme.

Wednesday 18 August: “Drum Together” African drumming

The “Drum Together” African drumming group meets each Wednesday at the Bowls Club in the “open” marquee – 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Individuals with no previous experience are welcome to drop in anytime – either to sit and listen or pick up a cow bell and tap the rhythm and take it from there. There are spare djembes if people want to give it a try. Toilets and refreshments on hand.
Time: 10am-1pm

Wednesday 18 August: Adult All Abilities Yoga

Yoga is a great way to build strength & flexibility in the body as well as learning how to relax both the mind & body. You don’t need to be flexible or strong to do yoga, you just need to show up! Yoga is for anybody, so come and join us in the beautiful Collet Park. Wear comfortable clothing you can move in, bring water and a yoga mat (if you have one).#getyourzestback

Thursday 19 August: Family Yoga

Join Ellie for a fun and engaging Family Yoga session! Ellie uses adventure stories and fun games to introduce yoga and mindfulness to kids (and adults!). Wear comfortable clothing, bring water and where possible bring your own yoga mat.
Time: 2.30pm- 3.15pm

Saturday 21 August: Heavenly Hooping Hula Hoop workshop

All ability, all age Hula Hooping from Heavenly Hooping with Angela. Improve your health and wellbeing. Learn new skills that will impress and have fun. Hoops provided. Please wear comfortable lightweight clothing that’s not too baggy and light footwear. Bring water and sunscreen! Children under 12 must be accompanied.

Saturday 21 August: The Adventures of Madame Carol Sell & Mr Popsy

When Madame Carol Sell first encounters Mr Popsy, she wonders whether anything will ever be the same again. The adventure begins when Mr Popsy, a hot air balloon, becomes the newest attraction in the Georgian gardens where the Carousel resides. Driven by competition, the two spiral out of control, with acts of revenge, sabotage and the occasional dance-off, only to find themselves no better off than they were at the start. A humorous pantomime exploring how respect, friendship and cooperation can overcome rivalry and jealousy. Brought to you by Tall Tails Theatre.

Mr. Bullzini welcomes you to a his world of wonder with feats of devilishly daring dexterity on a loose rope, juggling and magic all served up with more than a dash of humour! Watch this world-class funambulist has he walks through the sky above Collett Park.

Will covid-19 safety measures be in place at these events?

Each event will comply with the guidance in place for events at the time of the event. Under Tier 3 restrictions this means we will be operating at 50% maximum of a venue, both inside and outside. We will ask people to keep to social distancing measures and wear a mask where this is not possible when outdoors. Indoors masks will be worn as per current advice.
