From street performers to outdoor cinema, hula hooping to building your own playground, there is plenty to look forward to in Shepton Mallet this Summer. The Town Council is funding  a number of family-friendly events and activities for residents and visitors to support our town’s recovery as we emerge from lockdown. Our hope is to help create a full programme of fun, safe, exciting events and activities that will give everyone in Shepton something to look forward to and celebrate all our town has to offer. We are also supporting local businesses and organisations running their own events this Summer by promoting them as part of our Summer in Shepton programme.

Saturday 03 July 2021: Outdoor cinema screening of Up and The Wizard of Oz

Join us for a family-friendly outdoor cinema screening taking place in the grounds of St Paul’s Junior School. Bring you rug and your picnic! There are two screenings that day: Up at 3pm and The Wizard of Oz at 7pm. Each person attending (adult or child) MUST have a ticket or they will not be allowed entry. Tickets are for one screening only. Outdoor event, please dress according to the weather.

All ability, all age Hula Hooping from Heavenly Hooping with Angela. Improve your health and wellbeing. Learn new skills that will impress and have fun. Hoops provided. Saturday 24 July: Skate Jam

Run in partnership with Team Rubicon UK, come for a day of workshops, demonstrations and competitions open to all ages. From 10am-11am a skateboard and scooter workshop for those who have never tried the park before. From 11am-12pm workshops for young riders to help them feel safe using the park. From 1pm-4pm skateboard, scooter and BMX contests open to all ages and abilities and all kicked off with a professional demonstration. There will also be an opportunity to have your bike registered with BikeSafe, the national cycle database from 1pm-4pm. Please note anyone under the age of 18 MUST be accompanied by and adult to participate.

Not familiar with Football Tennis? Come find out about this popular hybrid sport at the Shepton Mallet Bowls and Tennis Club. There will be players on site to introduce you to sport and demonstrate a few tricks. Those already experienced in the game are invited to sign up in teams of 2 for a knock-out competition with prizes for the winners!

Saturday 21 August: The Adventures of Madame Carol Sell & Mr Popsy

When Madame Carol Sell first encounters Mr Popsy, she wonders whether anything will ever be the same again. The adventure begins when Mr Popsy, a hot air balloon, becomes the newest attraction in the Georgian gardens where the Carousel resides. Driven by competition, the two spiral out of control, with acts of revenge, sabotage and the occasional dance-off, only to find themselves no better off than they were at the start. A humorous pantomime exploring how respect, friendship and cooperation can overcome rivalry and jealousy. Brought to you by Tall Tails Theatre.

Mr. Bullzini welcomes you to a his world of wonder with feats of devilishly daring dexterity on a loose rope, juggling and magic all served up with more than a dash of humour! Watch this world-class funambulist has he walks through the sky above Collett Park.

Will covid-19 safety measures be in place at these events?

Each event will comply with the guidance in place for events at the time of the event. Under Tier 3 restrictions this means we will be operating at 50% maximum of a venue, both inside and outside. We will ask people to keep to social distancing measures and wear a mask where this is not possible when outdoors. Indoors masks will be worn as per current advice.
